Creating Accessible Videos

Videos should be produced and delivered in ways that ensure that all members of the audience can access their content. An accessible video includes captions, a transcript, and audio description and is delivered in an accessible media player. The GTxcel Video Platform supports the rendering of closed captions or subtitles in the video display. These captions can be selected by viewers through the CC button.

Adding Caption Manually

  1. Start by choosing the video you want from the Manage > Videos page
  2. Click on the video title to edit this video
  3. Click on the Assets tab under the video preview
  4. Scroll down to the Tracks section
  5. You can click Create New Captions Track to start writing your own captions track

The caption screen will no appear. Click play on the video and pause where you want your caption to appear.

Upload a caption file

You can also upload your own captions file. We recommend Web Video Text Tracks Format (WebVTT), a format for displaying timed text tracks (such as subtitles or captions) using the <track> element. The primary purpose of WebVTT files is to add text overlays to a <video>. WebVTT is a text based format, which must be encoded using UTF-8. Where you can use spaces you can also use tabs.

  1. Start by choosing the video you want from the Manage > Videos page
  2. Click on the video title to edit this video
  3. Click on the Assets tab under the video preview
  4. Scroll down to the Tracks section
  5. Select Upload Captions Track(s) from list and click add button.

Example WebVTT file

WEBVTT 00:00:12.000 --> 00:00:15.000
What brings you to the land
of the gatekeepers?
00:00:18.500 --> 00:00:20.500
I'm searching for someone.
00:00:36.500 --> 00:00:39.000
A dangerous quest for a lone hunter.
00:00:41.500 --> 00:00:44.000
I've been alone for as long
as I can remember.
